Sex addiction is described as an intimacy disorder as well as a behavior that becomes compulsive. Many folks with Aspergers Syndrome tend to have some OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) as well as intimacy disorders. In my practice, I have seen many folks who admit to having been diagnosed with Aspergers and finding the internet has helped them get up the courage to act out. It helps them with their isolation and they feel understood when in a chat room etc.
I help the person with Asperger’s see that they have an addiction like anyone else and encourage them to attend group therapy for sex addiction and use community resources.
As a certified sex addiction therapist, I help people understand addiction as a disease rather than a moral issue. I help the addict see that they didn’t choose to become an addict, that addiction is like any other disease. I educate about sex addiction and multiple addictions. I treat both the addicted and the spouses, families and friends of the addicted, and treat both from a place of complete empathy, compassion and non-judgement.
